Watchers

Well, that is, if people are still keeping an eye out on me-

I highly apologize for being cryptic and inactive for any newer watchers who had hoped to see new Sonic pieces coming from me. Hell, I apologize to everyone for ditching without properly stating why.

I've had this account for a long time, starting it when I was roughly around 10/11 years old. I used to enjoy drawing anthropomorphic cartoons back then, namely because they were simple and fun, and they had a large range of design possibilities. Their simplicity in form helped me ease into digital art and motivated me to make something beyond than a simple pencil sketch. Sonic the hedgehog was just one of the few series I enjoyed back then, and Sonic Adventure 2 really kicked me into the community, which in turn, made me a much bigger and devoted fan due to the amount of talent and fellow fans I could find on dA. Of course, likewise in that timeframe, Sonic was in a steady decline of game quality, and I roughly stuck with the Sonic art until STH06/Secret Rings/Sonic Riders. I fell off of the dA sphere at roughly age 14-15 as far as this account went.

The problem that made me fail to retain my interest in Sonic was that the Sonic series never really matured past the kiddy vibe that it always had. It doesn't grow up with its older and devoted fans. Instead, it only attempts to hold its appeal to one static audience, which would be the younger generation. The older Sonic games back then were different, though. They appealed to everyone of all ages, in a universal theme, and that's pretty much what the newer games mostly lack. (Werehog Sonic? Really? REALLY!!?!) I still keep a weary eye out for Sonic though, because at the core, I'm still a fan, secretly hoping the series will one day pick itself up and finally figure out what it's doing wrong. I heard positive things about Sonic Chronicles, so I will pick that up and play sometime.

It was hard to willingly detach from drawing what I was familiar with so I can spread out my diversity in subject matter and learn ACTUAL technical skills of drawing (such as studying human anatomy and drawing original subject matters and the like), but the cause of that wasn't intentional. A huge art block hit me in the middle of 2007, and I didn't want to draw anything that I was already familiar with. I got tired of it, and wanted to pursue something new, fulfilling, and challenging.  I didn't think staying in this account would ultimately benefit me with the art block, so I drastically needed a fresh new start elsewhere, thus I 'left' dA quietly.

I do want to pursue Art as a viable career in the long run. Right now, I'm getting ready to go off to college after being accepted to ACCD for the limited-acceptance Entertainment Design major. What do I have to thank for being accepted? My art block, because it forced me (albeit it acted kinda late) to be willing to draw anything my mind sets itself to. Even if I was late to the party on being able to become a 'universal' artist, I managed to make a somewhat solid portfolio that displayed what I was capable of doing.

As for the future of this account.. Will I still draw and post Sonic? Not nearly as much as I used to, unless the series somehow re-ignites a spark for me. It just really depends on what happens I guess. I still have been drawing Sonic, but it's been only kept to a bare minimum, and nothing is worthwhile enough to post. I've been focusing all my effort and energy on original work instead.

Narrator: To get to the top... a man needs an airplane.
Crow [as Narrator]: Or a giant pogo stick.
Mike [as Narrator]: Or I guess a helicopter would work too. Did I say "Flag on the moon" yet?
